Ride of Silence (Singapore)
Since tomorrow will be my surgery, I decided to utilize my legs and join the "Ride of Silence". I cycled to Sengkang to meet a fellow biker and also to buy a helmet then met with the rest at Merlion Park.
The ride of silence, wasn't very silent indeed. Riding under 20 km/h, we were really hogging the road. It is for a good reason, showing people that there are cyclist on the road. MANY of them. We HAVE the rights on the road. Do you know that bicycles are considered vehicles? We are not motor vehichles, but we are classified as one and that shows that we have the rights. Occupying the whole lane, cars tend to drive past us w/o honking. Only the BUSES and TAXI drivers were the noisy ones. It just shows how much drivers do not dare do anything when outnumbered.
From Woodlands > Yishun > Ang Mo Kio > Sengkang > Hougang > Serangoon > Lavender and finally Merlion park. Chilled out and wait for the ride to start. They break us into groups of 20 as not to over poppulate the roads. 19 km ride, passing by places in town at 13-16 km/h, it was an enjoyable ride. Slow and steady, but at some point, I was tempted to just leave the ride as it was kinda bring. Lemme rephrase, the ride around town was enjoyable but the Ride itself was boring. At the speed we were going, I might aswell jog. Oops, but of course, that would defeat the purpose. After completing the ride, we headed to Lavender food centre to have dinner and some rest. I broke off with the rest at hougang and went a seperate route back to Woodlands.
I made a pit-stop at Yishun and reallised the my hands were shaking. But my mental was still strong. I arrived back home at 12am and took a look at my speedo-meter:
Total distance - 86.6 km
Average Speed - 20 km/h
Top Speed - 51 km/h
