New Buy

New shoes and pedals for me, means a new biking experience. Locking the shoe into the pedals is not that simple for me, especially when going of on a traffic light with tones of cars behind waiting for you.

Its Just Wrong

What has happened to the mindset of every local Singaporean? Are we becoming dependable to every aspects of life. This has come to my mind recently after reading a book written by Neil Humphreys named "Even a Smaller Island". The book is about Singapore in the eyes of a foreigner who has the right to speak his mind as he has stayed here for 5 years during the time the book was published in 2003.

One thing he mentioned in the book was about Senior Citizens here. Why do we let them work till the age of 200 so that they can earn just enough to eat only a plate of rice with maybe nothing but soy sauce and a piece of fried egg. We people eat in fast food restaurants and leave the table without clearing the tray but instead let the poor old aunty come from one end of the restaurant staggering to the table that we once sat on just to clear that tray full of burger wrapping and a paper cup. How much effort does it take to do that ourselves? For some, maybe walking towards the rubbish bin is like doing a 400m sprint. I cant blame some, as living here in Singapore has become a luxury. You can have about just anything that you want with just a snap of the fingers. If you dont get it, COMPLAIN! What else is there to do?

Complaining is every Singaporean's fauvorite hobby. I swear, people here feed on complains. It just makes them happy. And the purpose of complaining to them is not for getting the better service, but in hope of getting freebies from the poor company. We have to live past this mindset as it really creates a bad image for us. Encouraging this behavior also is not healthy for the younger ones. Kids start complaining to get the things they want.

For example, they start using their maids to do chores for them. If poor Fatimah, the maid do not do as little 9 year old Jim says, they will just complain to mummy. Of course Fatimah does not want this to happen as this may result in being deported back and end up owing a pile of cash to the agency. So this means Fatimah has to treat Jim, only a 9 year old, as if he is the king. Its just plain disgusting if you picture it. Forget about relying on the older ones to set the example as most of them are to proud of themselves or some just cant be bothered. To them, they paid an amount of money to the agency and they deserve what they have paid for and forgetting all the aspects of morals and ettiquetes.
